Lac Thuy chicken breed

Where does the chicken come from?
First of all, it is advisable to understand the breed of Lac Thuy chickens. This is considered a rare endemic breed of chicken in Vietnam. This breed of chicken is native to Lac Thuy district, Hoa Binh province. That’s why it’s called The Water.

Since 2013, the government of Lac Thuy district has a plan to preserve the local breed of chickens. They have coordinated with the Livestock Institute, Hoa Binh tax department and other enterprises to expand the model of raising chickens on the locality. This helps to replicate the breed of chickens and retains a precious genetic source.

Recognize Lac Thuy chicken

Lac Thuy chicken can be identified through the following characteristics:

  • Chicks have an ivory-white plumage, the skin is yellow.
  • Hens have white, light pink feathers and turn a dry banana color when growing. Roosters have burgundy feathers. Mature, roosters have a long and silky plum, yellow-skinned legs.
  • The volume of commercial chickens reaches 1.8kg / rooster, hen 1.5kg / chick.
  • Annual egg laying rate: 94 eggs/roof/year
  • The survival rate of chickens is 90-93%.

a) Causes and signs of the disease:

  • Pneumonia in goats usually appears between autumn and winter or early spring. Adverse factors of the environment such as low temperature, monsoon, dampness, cramped, un detected barns, goats sticking to rain … increases the incidence of the disease of goats.
  • Sick goats present with high fever, poor appetite, fatigue, moodyness, lying in one place, possible drooling, runny nose, cough and shortness of breath. In cases of severe illness and not timely treatment of goats are prone to death. The disease can turn chronic, the goat is sick, thin and very difficult to recover.

b) How to prevent the disease:


Keep the barn dry, clean, airy in summer and warm in winter. Periodically clean the barn with 10% lime water or 2% phenic acid. Feed the goats well, ensuring adequate nutrition; Food and water should be clean. Early detection of sick goats, isolation and timely treatment.
